Turfing and lawns

Turfing and lawns in Mitcham and south London

New turf laid on ground that has been cleared, levelled and firmed, with edges and paths built in so the lawn keeps its shape. Part of the soft-landscaping side of a fuller garden build.

Preparation

Getting the ground ready

A good lawn is mostly what happens first: old growth cleared, levels corrected and the ground firmed and raked to an even bed. Turf laid on ground prepared like that knits down quickly and mows flat, rather than sitting in ruts and hollows.

Lawns are finished properly too, with clean edges against beds and paving and, where a garden needs it, a paved path so feet do not wear a line across the grass. Turfing and lawns are among the services on the Kane profile, and they usually come as part of a fuller garden build rather than as standalone lawncare.

Real turf or artificial

Which lawn suits your garden

Some gardens suit natural turf; some, in deep shade or heavy family use, do better with an artificial lawn. Kane has laid both as part of finished gardens, so the advice you get looks at your garden rather than pushing one option. Honestly, the lawns in the gallery are neat artificial-grass strips framed by paving rather than big striped lawns, so this is a garden-build service, not a lawncare round.

Common questions

When is the best time to lay turf?

Turf can go down through most of the year as long as the ground is prepared well and watered afterwards. Long dry spells and hard frost are the times to avoid, and Steven will be straight with you if the week you want is the wrong week.

How soon can a new lawn be used?

Give a new lawn a few weeks to root before regular use, and longer for heavy traffic. Where a route cannot be avoided, a paved path laid in with the turf is the practical answer.

Do you lay artificial lawns too?

Yes, as part of a garden build. The full-garden photos show artificial lawns set between paving, sleepers and fencing. Steven lays both real turf and artificial, so the advice is honest either way.
